My persona is that of an Andalusian Christian, "long term hostage". I was "given" the to the Caliphate of al Hakam, son of the great Abd Al Rahman the III to ensure my Barcelonan father's loyalty, (Don Regio Gonsalvez, a minor noble who had land on the frontier.) After many trials and tribulations I ended up in the employ of the régime of Al Manzor who was regent while the "Boy Caliph" Hisham II was growing up, sequestered in the Palace. . My persona's main mode of employment was, as a servant of Hakam's Brother, Prince Mustaffir, then after his unfortunate assassination, as a guard in the Jewish Quarter of the City (Cordoba), then, after some political maneuvering, as an escort to the caravans exchanging Hostages with the Christians and others who paid ransom to the Caliphate. This let me travel extensively throughout the region and even once to Constantinople! In the course of events I built many contacts. This came in very handy when after Al Manzor's son died, the Caliphate began to collapse. Berber Mercenaries, who were always at odds with the Native Troops and Saqaliba Civil servants, performed a Coup de' tat and sacked the city and The Palace at Madinat Al Zahra. Realizing I was on the losing side, without much hope of mercy, I made a hasty escape to Almeria. Once there, I contacted a captain in the Caliph's Coastal fleet I knew from previous misadventures, and persuaded him to take me on. From there we "patrolled" the Mediterranean for while, eventually settling down in Denia and the Balearics.
