What exactly is Calibration?

 Calibration is used as a way to even out the fight. A way of making the actual shot count more then the force behind it.  Consider this:
Lord Newfighter is about to fight Sir Oldhat.
Before they fight the perform there calibration shots.  Sir Oldhat lays one on Lord Newfighter that causes him to wince, while Lord Newfighter's shot is barely noticed by Oldhat.  At this point, both fighters know what to expect from the other.  If Oldhat hits Newfighter with anything less then what Oldhat gave in calibration, then Newfighter should call it light.  On the same note, if Newfighter hits Oldhat with anything less then what he gave in calibration, then Oldhat should call that light.  He shouldn't ignore a hit from Newfighter because Newfighter doesn't hit as hard as Oldhat's buddies- Lord beenthere and Sir Donethat. 
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with hitting hard (as long as it's not excessive ) but I also believe there is nothing wrong with hitting light.  I judge hits against me, based on the calibration performed before the fight, in this way, I can be fair to my opponent no matter who it is I am fighting. To me, the fact that I missed the block is more important then the strength of the blow, as long as the blow is at least has hard as the calibration shot.
