BASIC
COURTESIE -
Courtesy and chivalry are the watchwords of the Society for
Creative Anachronism. (Without them, we're just another social club in funny clothes...) A
good rule of thumb (from the Known World Handbook) is "Treat your inferiors in rank,
knowledge, or experience in the SCA as if they were your equals; treat your equals as if
they were your superiors. Treat officers as representatives of the King; treat the King
and Queen with the reverence due your sovereigns."
To be more specific:
Use medieval forms of, address.
Be faithful to your lord and your word.
Gentlemen, honor all ladies.
| Touch no mans goods unasked; give and receive gracefully.
|
Be gentle to the stranger.
Raise your sword, but not your voice.
At a tournament, let the slain man tell if he be slain.
Reverence the King and Queen.
Other Titles
Titles within the SCA are an indication of office or awards for
previous endeavours. (These are only the basic titles and forms of address. A full list
and explanation would fill this book. If you are interested in a more complete
explanation, contact your local Herald He or she will be more than glad to explain it all
to you.)
LORD or LADY
Anyone who has been recognized for their general service and
dedication to the SCA by being given an "Award of Arms". This entitles them to
the title and gives them the right to design and register an official "Arms"
with the Herald's Office.
This is usually the first award one gets in the SCA, so when in
doubt as to what to call someone, it is most courteous, and usually correct, to call them
"My Lord" or "My Lady".
Your local officers include :
Senechal - our "President". Runs the
meetings and coordinates the other offices.

"Treasurer". Handles dues, money and accounting.

names and develop heraldic "devices for their personas. Also acts as a loudspeaker
for announcements & helps run court business.
