Rurik- Reprinted fro mt the Trimaris Email List Server:Greetings Trimaris List Denizens, I believe that I can clear up some questions
about what occured and let you know what actually transpired.
There were 4 Gentles transported to the ER via EMS, and 6 others treated on site, but
*not* transported, as a direct result of the storm. There were over 10 vehicles damaged
with 3 of those appearing to be totaled. Yes, there was actually several micro-burst
cyclones which tore through the camp. Of this I am certain, because I looked up into the
circulation of one as I was assisting one of the injured after I saw him hit by a tree
branch. Nobody was struck by lightning. The person who I assisted did receive a secondary
electric shock which occured when the branch that struck him fell on a power line as it
was falling toward him. When the branch hit the line, it became charged. It was carrying
that charge when it hit him and the charge was passed on to him, but he did not receive
any direct electrical strike of any significant magnitude. Of this fact I am certain,
because I saw the entire incident occur. I only wish that there was a way for me to get to
him before he was hit. I saw the branch falling, I saw the burst of energy when it hit the
power line, and I saw it drive him to the ground when it hit him in the head.
It happened entirely too fast for me to be able to prevent it. All I was able to do was
get him and his lady (who was in their vehicle at the time) into the shelter of the hall,
and get him in the hands of the Chirurgeons. After that i didn't stop moving for the next
several hours. The camp itself had relatively minor damage to the structures. One of the
cabins had a corner of the eave sheared off by a fallen tree, there were two power lines
torn down, and too numerous to count trees taking severe damage.
Of Trimaris' reaction and cooperation I can't speak enough. I saw people who I know for
certain are sworn enemies working side by side to assist those in need and to make the
site as safe as possible after the storm. The speed and quantity of people responding when
we called for volunteers was outstanding, their diligence and perseverance were inspiring,
and their strength of character was enough to leave you awestruck. Never have I been more
proud to be in the company of these people we call SCAdians.
For myself, I wish to extend my warmest and most heartfelt thanks to those Gentles who
gave of themselves to help in this crisis, as well as the understanding and
cooperation of those who were unable to assist, simply because there were only so many
people we could safely put to work. All this made it possible for Lord Criofan, Lord
Andre', and myself to get things organized and taken care. Without everyone's help, we
would have had an impossible task before us.

Extrodinaire!, Good Morning Trimaris -
It's 7:38 am, monday, and I've just arrived home. I will give you what little
information I happen to have for those of you who did not make it,and are
concerned...There were 5 cars that incurred damage to a fair extent. Two were
totaled, three were damaged, but repairable, as I am given to understand. As for the
ambulances, I only know of three people that were sent off site; one is not even
storm-related. There was a gentle who did have what appeared to be "electrical
burns." I do not know the full story on what happened to him in that particular
situation, and do not want to report misinformation here. I did speak to someone claiming
to be his brother later that evening during my walkabouts, who said the gentle in question
was in the hospital and that they were holding him overnight for observation, but that he
was talking and laughing, and seemed to be just fine. The first ambulance of the day
actually occured at the tail end of the lysts, when my house-brother Torashiro was carried
off due to a possible neck injury. I am very happy to report that Tora was returned to us
at camp late last night (post-storm) and it seems he'll be just fine; just one heck of a
headache. Tusk, from Asgard, was one of the other people who was taken to the hospital
because of storm injuries. A tree branch fell on his tent and conked him on the head,
knocking him out cold. I am happy to report that Tusk was also returned to us at camp last
night with a nasty lump on his melon, but otherwise in good spirits. A few cabins were
damaged, but I understand that the Camp Director had those matters firmly in hand, and
that it wasn't anything too bad as far as overall structural damages. Among the other
things that were destroyed were several tents, (some developing new back doors, others
that lost their roofs) lots of personal posessions, and in the oddest story I heard, a
Shield -- it seems that when one of our Heavy Weapons fighters saw the storm coming, he
ran to his tent, threw on his helm, and then curled up under his shield, as fighters do
when they "die" in melee/wars. According to someone from his encampment who
relayed the story to me, it was what saved him from being injured by the tree branch that
made mincemeat of his shield. I am checking into the possibility of accepting
donations/doing a benefit fundraiser "party" (not event, non-sca, tax-law thing)
to help the victims of this to defray the costs in repairs/replacements. If anyone is
interested in helping, or has ideas or suggestions, please direct them my way in private
email.
To all who helped with the clean up after the storm,
to those gentles who helped with walkabouts/damage surveys, to those who tirelessly
offered the injured medical assistance, for those that opened & served feast to
_everyone_ left as we were all somewhat shell-shocked at that point... to those who
immediately thought to gather the children in the feast hall to calm them down and help to
alleviate their fears... to those who offered moral support, hugs, shared tears,
performed, and so so much more to bring our spirits back...to anyone who just offere a
smile, and a reassuring word to another... I say VIVAT TRIMARIS! You are the type of
people who make this Kingdom the proud and noble place it is. You are the the shining
examples of courtesy and chivalry that we idealize...You are the people who make me proud
to be Trimarian.
VIVAT TRIMARIS!
