Why do
we Cheer Vivat Trimaris
This question was
recently asked on the Trimaris List Server and I thought I would post what
I thout to be the most eloquent answer from Paul Camp:
Good question. I think that, as with
many customs of great antiquity, using "Vivat! TRIMARIS!" at
awards ceremonies came into being without a great deal of analysis. It's
simply one of our distinctive Trimarian customs. And a good one, I think.
I've always felt that a crisp "Vivat!" followed by a thundering
"TRIMARIS!" is quite inspiring and adds to the majesty of an
occasion.
One feels the unity of Crown and Folk in
service to the Kingdom, the power of our united Dreams given voice. A
crashing "Vivat! TRIMARIS!" symbolically says "We are
Trimaris, united in one voice under the Crown, and Trimaris lives today
and forever!" We use "Vivat! Trimaris!" at all of our
significant occasions. I think that we do it at awards ceremonies as a
sign that *this* is a significant occasion.
We, the Crown and People United,
are here and honor the individual whose services are being recognized. I
don't know that there is any deep philosophical reason. But if we need
one, how about this:
A Kingdom's strength and life is in the devotion and accomplishments
of its people. The worthy gentle being honored is a living manifestation
of the service that is the lifeblood of the Realm. While individuals like
this continue to serve and achieve, the Kingdom and its Dream will live,
now and in years to come. Trimaris lives in this, our honored brother or
sister, and in us all. Vivat! TRIMARIS!
